Security Tips

  1. Don’t say yes to prompts offering to remember your user name and password, like the one illustrated below.

  2. Don’t leave your notebook, personal belongings such your wallet, keys, briefcase or handbag, or PDA (eg Palm Pilot, Sony Clie) in plain view while your office is unattended.
  3. Do think about installing a cable-based lock, such as a Kensington lock, on your notebook.

  5. Do use a screen lock whenever you leave your desk. Information about setting up a screen lock is on the ITS security tips page.
  6. Do back up your data regularly - knowing where your work is stored as well as where your backups are stored protects your data. It’s also a good idea to regularly backup your work to a CD that you store at home as a form of business continuity planning for disasters.
