Managing Your Staff Email Quota
Staff Quotas
Unfortunately the University doesn't have infinite diskspace on the email
server (mail1.monash.edu.au), and so they have set an email quota on all
email accounts. The staff quota has been set at a soft limit
of 100 MB and a hard limit of 150 MB.
If you exceed the soft quota, you will receive
regular messages from the MMS mail server informing you that you are over
quota. If you exceed the hard quota, you will
not receive any mail at all. Anyone sending you mail will receive a bounce
message, and the mail will be discarded.

How do I clean up my email?
1. Check how much space you are using.
Check how much space you are using and which folders are using the most
space:
Log in to the Web mail client
select the 'folders' tab.
2a. Request an email archive
Archive all your mail currently on mail1 using the email archival tool:
https://messaging.its.monash.edu.au/mail/archive/request.phtml

2b. Save your archive to disk
You will receive an email providing a link to download your compressed
email archive (in zip format). Download this file and store it on your
hard drive. You should then backup this file to a CD or Zip Disk as an
archive copy.
3. Move emails from mail1.
Move (file) old or unecessary emails to your local mail folder.
