| Contents | Still lengthy delays on HP deliveries from Leading SolutionsAs advertised last year, there are still problems with HP deliveries from Leading Solutions. | Contents | Microsoft software on privately owned computersUnder the Microsoft CAUDIT-Campus agreement, staff members (but not students) of Monash University are licensed to install and use one copy of CAUDIT software on a home computer that they own or lease, for work-related purposes only. A license does not need to be purchased. HOWEVER, installations under the 'Work at Home' provision may only be done using media purchased from Microsoft via approved reseller Data#3 Ltd for the exclusive use of the individual staff member. Details of the monthly service charges are available on the ITS website: | Contents | Laptop thefts from Clayton CampusThis month, the Faculty has had 19 laptops stolen from the Clayton campus. This is a timely reminder that: 1. All staff with laptops should keep their computers locked in their office, using a security lock at all times. 2. Never leave your laptop on your desk at night (even with a security cable). Laptops should be removed from sight and preferably locked in a filing cabinet. 3. Staff should keep all Monash data on the Faculty's Novell server, or other Monash data servers, as a secure backup solution. Staff should contact their local IT support for further information on physical security options and backup solutions. | Contents | Apple Time Capsule not permitted at Monash sitesThe Apple Time Capsule is an external backup device that works wirelessly with Time Machine in Mac OS X Leopard. However, as this device works wirelessly, it conflicts with existing Monash infrastructure and is not permitted for use at Monash campuses. Please note that Monash offers several supported backup data servers for staff to backup their Monash data (for both Windows and Macintosh operating systems).
